Shell Springboard is a programme that provides a financial boost to innovative, low carbon business ideas from across the UK. Since 2005 Shell Springboard has supported twenty six businesses with awards of between £20,000 and £40,000. Through Springboard Shell supports SMEs who are trying to seize the commercial opportunities presented by climate change.
James Smith, Chairman of Shell UK, said: “ This year’s contenders have shown impressive creative thinking - combining business acumen and environmental awareness to best effect. Shell Springboard aims to support firms whose ideas are both environmentally and commercially sound – and once again the finalists have proved there are great innovators out there who can make a valuable difference. They’re an inspiration to other UK businesses.”
Over 130 small businesses from across the UK entered the Shell Springboard Awards this year.
The judges of the national award were:
• Lord Oxburgh KBE, former Chair of the House of Lords Science and Technology Select Committee
• Professor Julia King CBE FREng, Vice Chancellor of Aston University
• Tom Delay, Chief Executive, The Carbon Trust
• Professor Chris Rapley CBE, Director of the London Science Museum
